Our Story

Chef Matt Cross is a born-and-raised Kansas Citian who is no stranger to the restaurant business. Growing up, he watched his father own and operate numerous restaurant establishments in the Kansas City area, and eventually Matt found himself in the back of a kitchen prepping menu items and learning firsthand what it meant to cook food from scratch. It was then that he knew cooking and preparing food for others would be his passion.

Matt began his restaurant career cleaning tables, advanced to line cook, and eventually earned the title of sous chef. After a great deal of hard work and dedication, Matt was offered his first head chef position at Michael Forbes Grille in Brookside, where for seven years he further developed and honed his culinary skills. In addition to managing business in the kitchen, Matt oversaw the restaurant’s high-volume catering business. The responses of appreciation and customer satisfaction, and the desire to bring his own favorite dishes to the people in the Kansas City metro area are what led Matt to pursue his long-time dream of opening Matthew’s Catering.

Matt is a husband and father to three active children. When he isn’t being creative in the kitchen, he is spending time with his family and keeping plugged in to the local food scene.
